'Yinka, Where Is Your Huzband?' is a romance women's fiction novel and the debut of British-Nigerian author Lizzie Damilola Blackburn. Published by Penguin Publishing, the novel follows 30-something-year-old Yinka, a British-Nigerian woman, as she tries to live her life while resisting her mother and aunt's attempts to set her up with a man from their church.

But Yinka is happy and successful. She's even up for a promotion at work. Or so it would seem. Unfortunately, there is no promotion. In fact, Yinka gets fired from her job and things get even worse when her ex-boyfriend Femi, who previously told Yinka he was not ready for marriage a year earlier, shows up at her cousin's engagement party, and (surprise!) he's engaged!

Feeling low about the unexpected turn her life has taken, Yinka finally agrees to let her mother and aunt set her up with the mysterious Alex. Yinka is now focused on trying to appease her mother and aunt while trying to make herself more attractive to a man she's never met before. All in the name of getting a husband and having children.

‘Yinka, Where is Your Huzband’ is a hilarious yet heartwarming story about a woman who is caught up in the stress of being constantly told that, because of her age, she needs to find a husband and settle down to have children. The novel also explores how comparing oneself to others can create toxic relationships that breed resentment, self-hatred, self-doubt and more. And how parents are unwittingly contributing to that.

There is an air of the modern Bridget Jones in this novel, from the main characters constant need to create lists, and goals, to her getting into all manner of clumsy capers. It serves to lighten up the novel, while also ensuring that the main underlying themes and issues are handled seriously.

Ultimately, ‘Yinka, Where is Your Huzband’ is a book about self-acceptance, personal happiness, family and breaking the unhealthy cycle the older generation place on their children, ‘Yinka, Where is your Huzband’ will be released on March 31st 2022 on Amazon, Audible, Penguin Publishing, and your local independent book store
