Complimentary Kindness

Stress, mental illness and cyber-bullying are at an all-time high, so we’re partnering with Complimentary Kindness for 2025.

Complimentary Kindness was created to connect people and communities in a kind, uplifting and positive way. The aim is to spread the gift of kindness far and wide by providing a platform for people to give and receive compliments and express kind words of gratitude.

Research suggests that acts of giving and kindness, small and large, are associated with positive mental well-being. Giving to others and cooperating with them can stimulate the reward areas in the brain, creating positive feelings according to the NHS well-being guide

To bring a bit more kindness into our daily lives, we’ll be encouraging C Word readers to share one public compliment per month to someone in your world. Simply send us the picture or video with your compliment and we’ll add it to this C Word Compliments page!

So send a friend, colleague, or family member a Complimentary Kindness e-postcard, or post a message or video compliment on the CK Instagram just once per month and make someone else’s day.

If you’re also up for it, try our Kindness Challenge too!

  • Talk to someone new, say hello, ask them how they are doing today and really listen to their response.

  • Phone a family member or friend you haven’t spoken to in a while because you have been too busy and find out how they are doing.

  • Say ‘thank you’ to your partner, Mum, Dad, family member or friend for being there for you through life’s ups and downs.

  • If you are physically able to, offer to help someone carry their shopping, or a buggy up or down the stairs on the Underground if they are struggling.

  • Send a friend, colleague, family member or loved one a compliment to make their day.

  • If you are financially able to, buy a coffee/sandwich for someone who is homeless when you next go into the supermarket.

  • Be kind to yourself and carve out a minimum of 15 minutes to do something relaxing, for your self-care, or fun, to uplift you and recharge your energy.
