Fearless Flavour and Serious Crunch: Salty Dog Crisps Reviewed
Writer’s note: Even though these products were gifted to me, all the thoughts and opinions shared here are completely my own. My reviews are based on my personal experience with the products, aiming to give you an honest and unbiased perspective.
What I Tried
I tried a generous selection of crisps from Salty Dog, chosen to get a real feel for both their classic flavours and their more adventurous side. From pub-snack staples to bolder, punchier combinations, it felt like a good cross-section of what the brand does best.
What stood out straight away was the variety - familiar enough to feel comforting, but with enough edge to keep things interesting. It’s very much a “there’s something for everyone” line-up, whether you’re a traditionalist or someone who likes a bit of heat with their crisps.
My Experience & Taste
From the first bag, Salty Dog crisps felt reassuringly old-school in the best way. Thick-cut, properly crunchy, and clearly hand-cooked, they have that satisfying bite that immediately separates them from thinner, mass-produced crisps. There’s no greasiness, no limp texture - just a solid crunch that holds up well, flavour after flavour.
Taste-wise, these crisps don’t mess about. The Sea Salt and Salt & Malt Vinegar are beautifully balanced and clean, while the Strong Cheddar & Onion delivers a genuinely bold, savoury hit rather than a vague cheesy afterthought. The meat-inspired flavours (Ham & Mustard and British Roast Beef) are surprisingly nuanced, leaning savoury rather than artificial, and feel very much at home alongside a pint.
If you like a bit of heat, Fiery Jalapeño & Paprika brings a slow-building warmth rather than a sharp burn, while Sweet Chilli adds a gentler, more rounded sweetness. Prawn Cocktail is unapologetically nostalgic - punchy, tangy, and exactly what you want it to be.
About the Brand
Founded in 2002 in the British countryside by Salty Dog founders Judy and Dave Willis, the brand started as a reaction to bland, mass-produced pub snacks that lacked both flavour and personality. Their aim was simple but ambitious: to create properly hand-cooked snacks that tasted great, felt a bit indulgent, and had real character. Rooted in traditional cooking methods and bold flavour combinations, Salty Dog has always leaned into a playful, no-nonsense ethos, making snacks designed to be shared, enjoyed, and unapologetically savoured.

Final Thoughts
Overall, these are crisps made for grown-up snacking: flavour-forward, generously seasoned, and perfect for sharing (or not). I’d particularly recommend them for social occasions - drinks with friends, pub nights at home, or anytime you want a snack that actually feels like a treat rather than an afterthought.
If you’re looking for crisps that feel a little more considered than your average bag, Salty Dog delivers on flavour, crunch, and character in equal measure.
