Taking chances

It’s like walking past a jewellery shop every day and each morning and evening, seeing the same vintage looking, forgotten necklace in the window. It’s understated, not something you'd usually look twice at, but every time you walk past, you notice something else that makes you catch your breath. You can’t help but love it, just a little bit, with its tarnished edges and chipped silver. And the funny thing is, it’s just sitting there in the window ready for the taking - but you can’t afford it. Or, that’s what you tell yourself. And even if you could afford it, would it even suit you?

So you continue to walk past the same window, day after day, looking longingly at a necklace you’re too scared to buy for fear it won’t suit you. Instead, you admire its beauty from afar. Until one day, it is gone. It’s someone else’s now and your chance at ever being able to wear it, at ever being able to have it as your own, has vanished. You missed your opportunity, all on the off chance it might be wrong for you.
