Celebrating cycle to work day - making the right choices.

I am sure that whilst your car has been collecting dust during this pandemic, you have seen the changes in the air quality of the environment you live in. It’s pretty simple, everyone staying inside means there is less traffic which equals to less air pollution. In fact in London alone, there has been a 59% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions which is huge for such an expansive city.

But what if we keep it this way? Imagine if everyone tried to use more public transport, walk or cycle to work, school or to simply go food shopping. We would make place for a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone to live in which (to name a few benefits) can result in a decrease in respiratory problems and an abundance of greenery.

As someone living in the French Alps the mindset here is significantly different; people worship the mountains and want to keep the world they live in cleaner by cycling to work more, growing their own vegetables and polluting less.

Therefore, I urge you to worship your cities, countryside, mountains or seaside; wherever you live know that you can make a difference even as a single individual.

It’s very easy to just think ‘my actions as one individual won’t make any difference’ but actually if everyone simply used more public transport it would create this multiplier effect of positive difference.

So, especially on this day of ‘Cycle to Work Day’ get your bikes out and start cycling to work, to school, to meet your friends, to go shopping etc… Not only are you contributing to a greener space but you are also moving your body which we all know has multiple benefits. And if you don’t have your own bike then just look out for apps on your phone that allow you to rent bikes in your city (for example YoBike or Santander Cycles) !
