Why self-love is more important than ever

Self-love, defined as "love of self" or "regard for one's own happiness or advantage".

In a time where our ‘ordinary’ lives have altered, making your own happiness becomes a priority. It would be ever so easy to reminisce on what was (in fact, we may do this anyway), but the difference is the energy we put on bringing happiness into our everyday lives. We’re spending more time indoors, more time being sedentary. We’re seeing people less, and spending more time with ourselves. And although at first, this can be negative, especially for social butterflies, in this time, we’re able to think about what we really want in the future - how we’re going to make that a reality, and we know we’ll have a new appreciation for life.

As a generalisation, most of us have begun to embrace the now, and find joy in the little things. Whether it’s your morning coffee, ordering a take-out from your fave local restaurant, or having an extra long bath in the evening to wind down. Going from go go go... to real slow has been an adjustment, but it has had its benefits.

Time has taught us that we need to invest in self-love. We spend too much of our lives rushing around, and forgetting to look after ourselves = burn out. You may have discovered a new hobby, or learned more about yourself in the last few months than ever before. Things that you can take with you when things go back to ‘normal’ again!

At WooWoo, we’re all about pushing the message that self-love is important - whether it’s through Pamper or Pleasure. Our range encompasses this - our bundles and gift sets are the ideal treat yo’self moment (sometimes having a package of your fave goods arrive really puts a smile on your face). Our fun, bright and bold packaging, combined with our empowering message, hopefully, goes some way in spreading a little joy to our customers. But we also try to give that same message to our followers who perhaps have never purchased from us, through fun content - we’ve held online bingo sessions (with a WooWoo twist of course), had our Shagony Aunt, Alix Fox answering sex-related questions, we’re even hosting free Peach Pilates sessions every Wednesday at 12.30 pm on our Instagram Live - open to everybody! We post empowering content, funny MEME’s - anything we think will make somebody laugh or smile, even just for a few seconds. We also share informative content to tackle taboo topics.

Self-pleasure is an act of self-love, so our Pleasure Lube and Bliss Oil are ideal for keeping on your bedside table. Since WooWoo was created, we’ve been dismantling damaging taboos around female pleasure. Our range has been designed to give women the confidence to open themselves up to the world of self-love. Our Bliss Oil is a dreamy hemp-based oil that’s perfect for use with toys, or flying solo, and our lube is fabulous for solo or partnered play, and is safe for use with condoms!

Superdrug recently published some interesting research surrounding the attitudes around masturbation, and how this had changed during lockdown.

“Masturbation is a great way to learn more about your body, your sexual self, and what you like and dislike. In fact, according to recent research, 98% of people asked said they masturbate. (See, nearly everyone is at it!) However, 68% of those people didn’t consider it healthy or natural and 27% of people didn’t feel comfortable discussing it! So, despite people being happy to own up to taking part, there’s still a long way to go in changing people’s overall perceptions of it.”

You can find WooWoo featured in Superdrug’s Masturbation is Self-Celebration Campaign, and in their Sexual Health and Pleasure Category. In the campaign, Superdrug push the message that solo self-pleasure is good for you and your health. The positive associations with your body along, with the release of happy hormones can really give you a mood booster, release stress, and aid in better sleep - yup, self-love, and pleasure are good for you in SO many ways.

For more information on sex, pleasure, and v-care in general, head to WooWoo’s Read Our Lips blog - there’s tonnes of helpful content! Our Pamper, Pleasure and Protect ranges are there for you whether you fancy some pH-balanced washes that are good for your woo, some Hair Removal Cream to make you feel as smooth as a dolphin, or you’d like to spend a lil time boosting your happy hormones with some solo or partnered play.

5 ways to practice self-love in lockdown

  1. Stop being so hard on yourself. Working from home, seeing your favourite people less and figuring out your new daily routine can be tough. How much you accomplish in each day does not determine your worth.

  2. Move for wellness, not weight loss. With most of us working from home, our eating and movement habits have changed. Your weight does not determine your worth. Move for self-love; to give your mind and body some positivity.

  3. Make some time for your vibrator - brands like Womanizer, So Divine and Bondara have your back. Having a down day? It may make you less likely to want to self-pleasure, but it can boost your mood thanks to the wide variety of benefits!

  4. Light some candles, make a playlist of your favourite songs or listen to a Podcast, and stay in there until you’re ready to leave. Add a glass of wine or cup of tea - whichever’s your fave

  5. Plan cute activities where possible and give yourself something to look forward to!

Some ideas:

  • Cheese & wine night

  • Movie night - complete with snacks, cosy PJ’s, and your fave bev!

  • Wine tasting with your household, or on zoom to your friends - buy 3 cheap wines, 3 more expensive wines, and guess which costs the most. E.g. 2x white, 2x rose, 2x red

  • Pamper night - a face and hair mask, candles, a 90’s playlist, paint your nails, add some tan - feel fabulous, whatever that means or looks like to you!
