Q&A with Peroyd, a fashion brand that believes in equality for all.

Peroyd is a fashion brand founded by 4 incredible women who aspire to create equality through their actions. We had the opportunity to talk to them about why they started Peryod, what is stands for, its female community and where they would like to see it in the future. Peryod is an incredible brand designed to fight for women’s rights whilst looking good!

Check out their website here:

What initiated Peryod. in the first place?

Peryod was born from the dream of 4 friends to pass a message and build something bigger than us and with a positive impact on the world. We have a professional background in fashion, so it made perfect sense for us to express ourselves through it. Last year, very much driven by the pandemic, our inquiries and sharings started to come out more and more. So we plucked up our courage and started working on this dream of ours, Peryod. We managed to launch the brand on the day of the year that made most sense to us - 08/03, International Women's Day - and since then we feel we have been able to get our messages across and contribute to a fairer world.

How does the production of your clothing work?

We produce our garments in Portugal and favor environmentally friendly materials (like organic cotton) and the practice of sustainable techniques. We have a very close relationship with our production partner, which allows us to follow this process closely. The design of the garments is exclusively ours.

Your brand strives to bring women together and support each other; how do you make sure you are doing this everyday?

This is a big challenge to which we have set ourselves, but we have done a lot of actions in this direction. For example, we encourage and share first-person testimonies of topics that touch us and that are often carried in silence. We have covered topics such as domestic violence, body shaming, infertility, amongst others. By bringing these topics to our platforms and having them shared by women telling their experiences, we are able to create a sense of community, support, and mutual help.

In addition to this part of the community building, which is about helping and supporting each other, we also donate 1€ for each sale to an organization that works to support women. Currently we are working with 4 organizations (Lar Jorbalan, Vida Norte, Diaconia and Fundação Fenomeno), but our projects are to expand this range and also the social work itself.

Describe Peryod. in three words!

Equality

Empowerment

Self love

You have branched out to producing other items such as phone cases; is this something you are going to continue to do?

Yes, this year we have been producing masks (in partnership with Maskk) and cell phone accessories, and there's more to come. We want to get our messages across in people's everyday pieces.

Your website has a wonderful page highlighting the stories of incredible women across history - how do these stories tie in with the stories of contemporary women?

We feel it is very important to know our history, the struggles and achievements of those who came before us and to whom we owe so much. So we chose some of our heroines to name our pieces and tell their stories. Our goal is not only to celebrate these women, but also to spread their stories and thereby encourage as many other women who can identify with them. These struggles are not all closed, there are many of them that just have the door open and it's up to us to try and close them.

Do you have any tips about working in a female team and being your own boss?

Working in a female team is very easy and rewarding. We are all oriented in the same direction and with a great sense of mission. There is a great spirit of mutual help and admiration and this makes all the processes easier.

The best tip we can give you is to be faithful to what you believe in and not to give up. The adversities are many, but this makes the conquests taste even better! We are at the beginning of our struggle and it is already so rewarding.

Where would you like to see Peryod. in 5 years time?

All over the world!!!

And finally, (we like to throw in a fun one) what is your guilty pleasure when no one is looking?

Ahahahaha!... We have to confess that we love reality shows and (not so guilty) dancing a lot despite the poor coordination.
