Mermaid Waves in Minutes: Trying out the TYMO ROVY Deep Waver
Writer’s note: Even though these products were gifted to me, all the thoughts and opinions shared here are completely my own. My reviews are based on my personal experience with the products, aiming to give you an honest and unbiased perspective.
What I Tried
For this review, I tested the TYMO ROVY Deep Waver. I chose it because I love the look of effortless beachy and mermaid waves, but I don't always (see, never) have the time or patience to achieve them with a traditional curling wand. The ROVY promises quick, long-lasting waves with minimal effort, making it an appealing option for busy mornings and everyday styling.
How to Use It
Start with clean, completely dry hair and apply a heat protectant before styling. Switch on the TYMO ROVY Deep Waver, select one of the nine heat settings that's appropriate for your hair type, and allow it to heat up - it reaches the selected temperature in just a few seconds, and you can see the temperature rising in real time.
Working with small sections of hair, position the waver close to the roots (taking advantage of the anti-scald design for added confidence), clamp the hair between the barrels, and hold for 4–10 seconds depending on your hair type and the level of definition you'd like. The built-in timer beeps to let you know when it's time to move on, helping you achieve consistent waves while reducing the risk of heat damage from over-styling.
Release the clamp, move the waver down to the next section of hair, slightly overlapping the previous wave, and repeat until you reach the ends. Continue section by section until your whole head is styled. Once finished, allow your hair to cool before gently separating the waves with your fingers for a softer, more natural finish. Complete your look with a light mist of hairspray if you'd like additional hold throughout the day.
My Experience & Results
My first impression wasn't actually of the styling tool itself, but of the instruction booklet. It's incredibly detailed, which is reassuring, but it can feel a little daunting when you first open the box. Thankfully, once I plugged in the TYMO ROVY and started styling, I realised it's much more straightforward than it initially appears.
The tool heated up in just a few seconds, and I found the actual styling process surprisingly quick and easy. One of my favourite features was the built-in beep timer, which lets you know when it's time to release the clamp and move on to the next section. It completely takes the guesswork out of styling, making it much easier to create consistent waves without worrying about overheating your hair.
Although using the tool itself was simple, I didn't quite achieve the perfect mermaid-wave look on my first attempt. That wasn't a reflection of the product, though - it was entirely down to me getting used to the technique. Like any new styling tool, there's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to sectioning your hair, deciding how close to the roots to start, and creating the finish you're after. Even so, my hair still had plenty of texture and soft, beachy movement, and I could already see the potential.
I'm confident that with a little more practice, I'll be able to perfect those defined, Instagram-worthy mermaid waves that the ROVY is designed to create. The tool itself makes the process as easy as possible, and because it's so quick to use, it's one I'm happy to keep reaching for while I refine my technique.
Overall, I was impressed with how effortless the styling experience felt. The TYMO ROVY takes much of the hard work out of creating textured waves, and the thoughtful features, particularly the timer and fast heat-up time, make it a great option for anyone looking to switch up their hairstyle without spending ages in front of the mirror.
