Classic Liquorice with a Fizzy Punch: A Look at Stockley’s Liquorice Flyers

Writer’s note: Even though these products were gifted to me, all the thoughts and opinions shared here are completely my own. My reviews are based on my personal experience with the products, aiming to give you an honest and unbiased perspective.

What I Tried

I received five flavours of Stockley’s Liquorice Flyers:

  • Original Liquorice Flyers: The classic liquorice sweet with its familiar fizzy sherbet centre.

  • Cherry Flyers: A fruity twist on the original, featuring cherry flavour.

  • Sour Flyers: A tangier option for anyone who likes their sweets with an extra sour kick.

  • Apple & Raspberry Flyers: A combination of two fruity favourites.

  • Strawberry Flyers: A sweet, strawberry-flavoured variation on the classic.

All five flavours are also available together in a gift pack for £9.99, making it a lovely little present for a retro sweet enthusiast. Or, you know, a treat for yourself. No judgement here!

How to Use It

Simply open the packet and enjoy!

Whether you're treating yourself during a film night, sharing them with friends or indulging in a little childhood nostalgia, Liquorice Flyers are made for those moments when you fancy something sweet.

My Experience & Results

I'll admit something straight away: I'm not the biggest liquorice fan. It's one of those flavours I've never particularly gravitated towards, so while I was excited to revisit a childhood classic, I wasn't entirely sure how much I'd enjoy them.

As it turns out, I needn't have worried!

The first thing that really stood out to me was just how fizzy these sweets are. The chewy outer shell gives way to a generous burst of sherbet that delivers a proper tongue-tingling sensation. And I'm not talking about a barely noticeable fizz, either. These little sweets really pack a punch!

There's something ridiculously satisfying about that contrast between the chewy exterior and the fizzy centre.

What surprised me most was just how moreish the fruity flavours were. I'm usually pretty good at having a couple of sweets and putting the packet away, but these made that surprisingly difficult. I'd have one, enjoy the fizzy sherbet centre, and immediately find myself reaching for another.

And another.

You get the idea!

I also loved that the different flavours made the range feel more accessible to people like me who aren't particularly keen on traditional liquorice. You still get that nostalgic Flyers experience, complete with the chewy texture and fizzy filling, without having to be a die-hard liquorice lover.

The Strawberry Flyers were easily my favourite of the bunch. They had just the right balance of sweet, fruity flavour and tongue-tingling fizz, making them dangerously moreish. If I had to pick just one flavour to buy again, it would be strawberry without a second thought!

Overall, these were a genuinely enjoyable little throwback. The fizz was much more impressive than I expected, the fruity flavours were dangerously moreish, and I found myself enjoying them far more than I'd anticipated.

About the Brand

With more than a century of sweet-making heritage, Stockley's is a British confectionery brand that knows a thing or two about satisfying a sweet tooth.

Founded in Lancashire in 1918 by Malcolm Stockley, the company has built its reputation on traditional British sweets, combining nostalgic favourites with flavours that appeal to modern-day sweet lovers.

One of its most recognisable creations is the iconic Liquorice Flyer, which first appeared in 1946. With its chewy liquorice exterior and fizzy sherbet centre, the Flyer quickly became a familiar sight in sweet shops across the UK.

Fast-forward to 2026, and Flyers are celebrating their 80th anniversary. While the original remains a firm favourite, the range has expanded to include fruity and sour variations, introducing the classic sweet to a new generation.

From the traditional liquorice version to strawberry, cherry, apple and raspberry, Stockley's has managed to keep the nostalgic charm of Flyers alive while giving sweet lovers more flavours to explore.

Whether they remind you of spending your pocket money at the corner shop or you're discovering them for the first time, Stockley's Flyers are proof that some childhood favourites never really go out of style.
