Potts’ Sauces, Stocks, and Gravies Put to the Test

Writer’s note: Even though these products were gifted to me, all the thoughts and opinions shared here are completely my own. My reviews are based on my personal experience with the products, aiming to give you an honest and unbiased perspective.

What I Tried

I was lucky enough to try a generous selection from Potts’, and honestly, it felt like being handed a shortcut to about three weeks’ worth of dinners.

I was sent a mix of cooking sauces, gravies and stocks to properly test how versatile the range is - from midweek “I cannot think” meals to Sunday-roast-level comfort food.

Cooking Sauces

Gravies

Stocks

I was able to test the depth of flavour and versatility, and whether they really deliver that “you made this from scratch?” reaction, without actually making everything from scratch.

How to Use It

Each product comes with clear, easy-to-follow instructions printed directly on the can, making it simple to heat and serve with confidence. Whether you’re simmering a sauce, pouring over a gravy, or using the stock as a base, everything you need to know is right there - no guesswork required.

My Experience & Results

My first impression? Proper depth of flavour. The sauces don’t taste flat or overly sweet in the way some jarred options can - there’s a noticeable richness straight away. The Korma was creamy without being cloying. The Ragu Alla Calabrese had a slow-cooked feel, while the Puttanesca brought that salty, punchy edge you expect.

With the gravies, I noticed an immediate difference in richness compared to granule-based options. The Beef & Red Wine in particular had that glossy, full-bodied finish you usually only get from reducing a pan properly. It brought a simple roast dinner to a new level, without any extra faff.

The stocks are where the “quiet hero” award goes. They added a visible and noticeable depth to each meal - fuller flavour, more rounded, less watery. It’s the sort of upgrade you don’t realise you need until you try it.

What I loved most was the balance between convenience and quality - these genuinely taste like they’ve been thought through. If I had to nitpick, they are pricier than supermarket own-brand equivalents, but the flavour payoff justifies it. I’d recommend them to anyone who enjoys cooking but doesn’t always have the time (or energy) to build flavour completely from scratch - especially for midweek dinners that need to feel a little less ordinary.
