6 female podcasts we are LOVING right now

Shameless

If you love an Aussie accent, and just generally great popular culture knowledge and chat, then Shameless podcast is for you, my friends. Aptly named, Zara and Michelle go IN on all those pop culture references from our early days (there is literally a three episodes dedicated to the infamous Brad, Ange, Jen love triangle), but they also have a book club with stellar recommendations and guests including Pandora Sykes, and of course my fave Instagram stalks, Matt and Jack from The Inspired Unemployed. Basically a wealth of content for you to listen to and thoroughly enjoy.

Girls In Work

Our friends over at Girls In Work are doing seriously great things, arguably most notable is their Girls in Work podcast. Sophie and Emma tackle topics including cyberflashing, asking for a pay rise, understanding your worth and bouncing back after rejection (to name just a few). The pair have also recently launched a Sexism In The City podcast mini-series within the main podcast, where they share the good, the bad and the funny to drive change for women in the workplace. WELL worth a listen.

Start Up Start Now

Property manager and founder of Aston Women In Business, Sharena, decided to create Start Up Start Now Podcast to showcase the journeys of inspirational entrepreneurs, side hustlers and their mentors. One particularly good episode is the one with Ashley Hribar-Green who co-founded CoffeeJack, the most funded coffee maker in the history of crowdfunding. Have a listen to that particular episode here.

Confession Sessions

Sometimes it seems verging on arrogant to toot your own trumpet, but I’m taking this to be confidence rather than arrogance. As you may have already heard, we at The C Word Mag have started our very own podcast. Confession Sessions does exactly what it says on the tin, each episode has a guest who comes on to ‘confess’ a secret or embarrassing story to presenters Sam and I. To get a feel for the whole thing, Sam and I do a lot of confessing and chatter for the first three episodes, our first guest being Jessika Power from Married At First Sight Australia who joined us for episode four and it’s WELL worth a listen. Check it out here.

This is Impt

Our writer and editor here at The C Word Mag, Mary Raftopoulos has started her own podcast! This Is Impt is Mary’s Instagram which she started in 2020 after the first coronavirus lockdown, dedicated to helping the unheard be heard. The This Is Impt podcast includes guests speaking on a wide variety of topics spanning race, education, politics, dating and feminism to name just a few. Catch the first episode where Mary chats to Chi - San, Deltha and Amber on growing up mixed raced on Spotify here.

Sentimental in the City

If you’re a lover of Sex and the City, this one is for you. The beloved Dolly Alderton teams up with Caroline O’Donoghue as part of her podcast Sentimental Garbage for a special SATC deep dive. Only spanning 7 episodes - one for each season (season 6 needed two parts) - the two take 90s pop culture analysis to a whole new level, and frankly it’s fantastic. As a huge SATC lover (I also recently re-started the whole series from season 1), it’s no shock why the show still resonates even now. Dolly and Caroline draw parallels that the show has given in their own lives, why we really should not hate Miranda, and what being sexually liberated as young, single women really means. Listen to episode one here.
