Mental health is such a key component for everyday living. All the way from personal relationships and romantic relationships, work spaces, to so much more. Philadelphia native Christy Sanborn is a life coach with a one of a kind approach, as she’s been providing life coaching unconsciously to individuals before she made it official.

“Ever since I was a young girl, my favorite thing to do was find out what adults were struggling with, and try to help them feel better,” said Sanborn. “I find so much joy in helping people shift their perspectives about the things they call ‘problems’.”

Sanborn grew up with many amazing optimistic mentors and teachers in her life. She was always spiritually and emotionally advanced, as she was always surrounded by adults that would teach her good and bad things about the world. Having had a very toxic relationship with her mother growing up, she carried that pain and hurt within her for a long time, and it took Sanborn many years to forgive her mother and respect her and unconditionally love her for who she was.

“I also have had some very stressful times being a single mother for 11 years with my daughter,” she said. “Looking back on being a single mom for so long, I believe that is why I am such a resourceful person now.”

She had to think outside the box when she was young as well as trying to figure out life by herself, she had a child to raise who was counting on her for love and support. Some of Sanborn’s hardest times in life are behind her now, which she is very grateful for and wouldn’t change a single thing about.

“The path that I am on today is a very different path than the one I was on when I was 25,” stated Sanborn. “Back then, I was all about myself and what I could do to make myself happy. My path today consists of doing my personal best everyday with everything that I do.”

Sanborn also believes in working on self care as much as possible...spiritually, mentally, and physically. Nowadays, her new mantra is ‘who needs my help today, and how can I deliver hope to people that are hurting?’.

Now, Sanborn’s past experiences and her current methods towards living life are what made her who she is today. This is where her career comes into play. She’shad every job youcan imagine, Sanborn became a men’s hair stylist, which was a career she followedfor 23 years. A few years ago while being behind the chair at the salon she worked at, she realised it wasn’t the hair cutting that she adored dearly as a profession, but the coaching behind the chair she did with her clients, which gave her a sense of complete satisfaction. Although she was giving all her clients advice while cutting their hair, she asked herself what her goals were after being behind the chair for 23 years. She thought to herself, “do I want to have my own hair salon?”...and the answer was ‘No’.

“That’s when I knew that I was ready to make the shift from cutting hair to coaching people full time,” she said. “Before opening up my own life coaching business in NJ, I first had to make sure that I was qualified to give ‘anyone’ advice to help them in their lives, so I decided to go to New York City once a week with a blow up couch that I purchased on Amazon and sit on the sidewalk outside of Grand Central Station and give out ‘Free advice’ to strangers passing by.”

Sanborn went to Manhattan once a week for about a year. After speaking to a plethora of incredible people on the blow up couch, she knew she was ready to move forward with her new business venture, which she decided to call “more.”The word “more.” came to her at around 3 in the morning one day. With this being the case, she went with the name for her life coaching business as she believes the best ideas arrive at one's head at really early times in the morning.

“It was spelled just like that.. all lowercase letters with a period,” she said in regard to “more.”. “I knew that it was the perfect name for my business because the word “more.” is so powerful because we were all made to love more, become more, give more, listen more, grow more and serve more.”

As Sanborn had experienced what she considers a beautiful ride in her life via her experiences, women hold a special place in her heart, as we are the glue that holds the world together and are the nurtures of the planet.

“If we as women are emotionally well and whole, then from there we can heal those that are suffering,” she said. “A lot of the time, women are not raised to care about themselves...and we are not aware of the power that we hold in our femininity,” she expressed.

A kind woman is a beautiful woman and a compassionate woman is an angel, she stated. Compassion moves mountains and she believes that if a woman feels her best and is emotionally along with spiritually well, everyone in her life benefits from that well being. A few ways that she’s assisted women in need with her life coaching are by providing them with the tools they can utilize to help them cope through any tough situation.

“Most of us lack the language and the tools to speak up for ourselves,” she said. “We also lack the discipline of caring about our emotional well being on a daily basis and we put everyone else’s needs before ourselves and then we always come up short with ourselves.”

Sanborn’s goal is always to help women believe in themselves and to place their emotions into words. She also teaches forgiveness, as it is a key ingredient for an individual’s true healing, along with giving back without expectancy. Therefore, she began giving away bouquets of flowers anonymously. Sanborn and her daughter Leena started an anonymous flower delivery service in August of 2020 in New Jersey, as they wanted to find a way to give back to their community since many people were suffering from the pandemic’s outcome.

The pandemic prompted she and her daughter to create the hashtag #sharinglovethruflowers and a Facebook in August, which encouraged her followers to nominate those who could use the extra love.

That specific post gained more than 1,000 responses, and ever since, local flower shops in addition to residents have assisted in carrying on the tradition.

“We handmade a few fresh flower bouquets and arranged them in mason jars with some handwritten inspirational cards attached and we posted the pictures of the jars on Facebook and asked, ‘If anyone knows of someone that is hurting or in need of a pick me up, please contact us and we will deliver a bouquet to them for free and anonymously’”.

A year later, their flower service is still going strong, as they’ve delivered to over 500 people, which is still free and anonymous. The anonymity is what really gets people to feel something special, said Sanborn.

“The fact that someone thought of you and they don’t want the credit for the thought is mind blowing to most people and it is the most amazing feeling to be able to make someone’s day, just because…”, she said. “I have always wanted to be a philanthropist and I thought that until I have the millions of dollars to give away to people in need, I can start by giving fresh flowers away.”

The flower service has sparked conversation with life coaching for Sanborn. Since many people feel empty inside at the end of the day, even after they have received everything they’ve ever desired in life, they need an outlet in their life, which is to give back. For Sanborn, contribution is the key to true happiness and if one isn’t giving, then they aren’t growing.

“There is only so much happiness that one person can feel with their material possessions,” expressed Sanborn. “The joy that comes from giving to someone else takes you out of your own head and brings you back to your heart, which is where all the magic happens.”

When people hear about the anonymous flower delivery that she does, they get curious and excited and want to be included as she feels some of them were probably not taught the joy that arrives from anonymous giving, since most were not taught that kind of initiative.

“Usually people give because they are looking for the pat on the back for it or the acknowledgment of the gift,” she said. “Giving just for the sake of giving is a super power.”

Just like all things in Sanborn’s life, her ideas are always changing and evolving. She hopes to always be the person that people can call when they need the truth while seeking guidance and support. She also hopes to be an inspirational speaker someday, as she believes the world needs more emotionally mentally healthy, and happy women to look up to. As far as the flowers go, there is nothing that Sanborn enjoys more than playing with flowers, as they are pure love and bring such happiness and joy to many.

“It’s an honor to be around such beauty and I hope to have my own floral shop someday soon and where I will conduct my life coaching sessions from,” said Sanborn. “It’s hard to feel bad when you are surrounded by such natural beauty as flowers and I will continue to give away anonymous flowers to people for as long as I live.”
